Perfectly Peanutty Home Baked Treats For Dogs

Perfectly Peanutty Home Baked Treats For Dogs

Now, we realise that this might be the second time we've mentioned The Great British Bake Off this month, but as the weeks go by and the contestants in the tent bake more and more extravagant human treats, we keep thinking it's only right we give our delightful dogs the opportunity to sample the best of baking too.

One of the more popular ingredients in modern baking and one that we will be focusing on in this blog post is perfect peanut butter. Peanut butter is not only a delicious human treat it is a great choice for your dogs too, with its irresistibly delicious flavour and high protein content, alongside a whole host of other brilliant nutritional benefits. Of course when you're baking treats for your dogs it’s important to use a peanut butter that is made specifically for dogs, such as our very own Natural Cornish Pet Peanut Butter For Dogs, as ingredients in some human peanut butters, such as xylitol, can cause health problems in your furry friends.

History of Peanut Butter

For nearly 1000 years people have been making pastes from peanuts, with evidence suggesting that the ancient civilisations of the Incas and the Aztecs consumed some form of this delicious nut butter. It wasn't until the 19th century that the peanut butter we all know and love hit the shelves of the high street in the US, with early producers including John Harvey Kellogg, the man who is now synonymous with breakfast cereals. Due to its high protein content and easily consumed texture, early varieties of peanut butter were often used in health institutes and were advertised as a health food. Nowadays peanut butter is readily available for us humans on all supermarket shelves and there are also varieties that are made specifically for our canine companions such as our very own Natural Cornish Pet Dog Friendly Peanut Butter.
