Walking this Winter
Darker nights and rainy days don’t offer much appeal when choosing to exit the cosy warmth of our happy homes. With winter well and truly underway on our Cornish coastline, keeping both ourselves and our pets safe when walking has never been more important.
Shorter daylight hours mean it’s more vital than ever to stay visible when out on wonderful walks with our four-legged friends. Reflective gear and dog-friendly lights are some of the necessary items needed to walk in our wild and wintery weather. Alongside this as it grows colder, icy paths and cold pavements can cause havoc on our pet’s paws so keeping on top of their grooming ensures they stay clean and healthy this winter.
Here at Natural Cornish Pet Shop, we have everything you need to wander in this cold and wet climate and to keep you and your pet safe whilst doing so.
Shelter from the Rain
Hurtta Expedition Parka
We all know the importance of a good coat when our lovely British weather pours down from the sky. A simple and efficient ways to keep the dog's body temperature stable in the cold, wet weather is Hurrta’s range of pawfect parkas. These are designed to ensure our dogs remain cosy and comfortable no matter what the weather might bring.
Aiming to protect your dog's most important areas- the chest and the sensitive abdomen, their jackets are quick to put on and take off and are also well suited for warming up the muscles of active dogs before or after training.
Hurtta Monsoon Coat
The Monsoon raincoat also by Hurtta, is an essential outfit for every dog in rainy, windy or muddy weather. With fully waterproof seals, this coat is ideal for any wet weather adventure. It's reflective prints improve safety and visibility in the dark, and the wide belly flap keeps the coat securely in place ensuring that it stays on without restricting your dog’s movement, even during boisterous play. Made with fantastic fabric, this coat is both comfortable for your dog, easy to put on and available in two classic coat colours (Bilberry and Blackberry).
Protect those Paws
With muddy puddles and harsh grit on pavements and paths this winter, our pet’s paws can become damaged and sore when exposed to the elements. Leading to blistering and sometimes infections, protecting our pet’s paws is just as necessary as us humans wearing gloves on our hands.
WildWash Magic Paw Balm
WildWash Magic Paw Balm with Sweet Almond Oil, Frankincense and Kanuka is a super conditioning paw treatment that will moisturise your dogs’ cracked, dry and rough paws and help form a barrier to protect them from every day wear and tear.
When those muddy walks play havoc on your pet’s paws, this magic balm will provide soothing support to keep their toes feeling as fresh as ever. Great for use in extreme weather conditions and affords protection against; cracked pavements, road grit, ice and salt. This wonder product can also be used to moisturise nails, dry noses and condition calloused elbows and dry patches on the skin. WildWash Magic Paw Balm contains natural human grade ingredients and is completely safe for your pet to lick. This balm is also great for cats too!
As winter brings a whole heap of frost and darkness, walking your dog becomes a daunting task when the sun has set. With many of us now resolved to walking our canine companions in the dark, keeping yourselves and your pooch safe at night can be a life saving decision.
Here on our Cornish coast, our regular walking paths are poorly lit and far from any street lighting. With a range of reflective gear and lights to keep you and your pet safe when about and about this winter, Natural Cornish Pet Shop has everything you need.
Hurtta harnesses, leads, coats and collars
Our Hurrta range of reflective harnesses, leads and collars ensures your pet is seen by oncoming dog walkers and vehicles. Comfortable and durable, this amazing range of apparel is a sure investment when the lights begin to dim outside.
Orbiloc Dog Dual Safety Light
In addition, our Orbiloc light is ideal for getting your pooch ready for a walk in the dark. Easily clipped onto their collar, harness or lead, this light will keep you both safe and visible when walking late at night. This safety light can also be seen from a distance of 5 km/ 3 miles, keeping your pooch visible in almost any situation.
We would always encourage you to wear visible clothing, a light and reflective gear in the months when daylight is poor. With blind bends, dark coastal paths and other walkers to consider, keeping yourself and your dog safe this winter is imperative.
